Update from Bristol

Dear Friends of Bristol Homeopathic Hospital

You asked to be kept informed of important developments.

Bristol’s hospitals trust (UHB) is proposing to move Bristol Homeopathic Hospital and the homeopathic service out of its central location at  Bristol Homeopathic Hospital  in Cotham, to one of many services offered at South Bristol Community Hospital (SBCH) in Hengrove on the outskirts of Bristol.

Anyone concerned about this is asked to attend the public consultation

  • on Monday 22nd October 2012 at 6pm at Bristol Heart Institute – Atrium
  • or Tuesday 23rd October 10am South Bristol Community Hospital – Conference Room 1

or write to make their opinions known.

The meetings are led by UHB and there are just 15 places available at each meeting. We need to fill these places and show our support for the homeopathic service continuing on the NHS.

GPs are already confused about whether they can refer patients to the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital and patients will also wonder if the service exists if they don’t know where it is.

Meanwhile the doctors at the Homeopathic Hospital have a plan for a community clinic in central Bristol. Please stay in touch and show your interest in the continuation of the homeopathic service.

Please attend the public consultation if you can.

To book your place at the discussion group you need to contact Tony Watkin, the Trust’s Public Involvement Project Lead: tony.watkin@uhbristol.nhs.uk

UHB are offering space for only 15 people to attend but in order to show how much support there is for the hospital, ideally many more people would ask to attend the meetings. You can also express your concerns are by email or letter if you cannot attend in person.

Please note: – If you want to come to one of the meetings, you need to book your place, please contact Tony Watkin, the Trust’s Public Involvement Project Lead, at tony.watkin@uhbristol.nhs.uk or telephone him on 0117 342 3729.

If you are unable to attend the event and would like to give your views on what would make the relocation easier for you please email hazra.aya@uhbristol.nhs.uk or write to tony.watkin@uhbristol.nhs.uk by Thursday 18th October 2012.

If you have any questions or queries about the meetings or how to respond, please do not hesitate to contact me either by email to bris.co.ordinator@gmail.com or text or call mobile 07941106851.

This proposed move is being described not as a change in the level of service, but a change in where that service is delivered.   It cannot technically be overturned but if there is significant opposition to the move, the UHB might be persuaded by the amount of patient pressure to change its mind.  It is now up to individual patients to make their voice heard.

Yours sincerely

Diane Brindley
